Ceramic Crowns

Many people choose to have a ceramic crown to replace a missing tooth or to strengthen a weakened tooth. The dental crown is applied over the part of the tooth that is above the gum line and is made using various materials by doctors and technical specialists.

To start the preparation of the tooth in question, the patient must be properly anesthetized. After conventional dental preparation, an image of your teeth will be captured with an intraoral camera. This process is comfortable and completely painless. A computer will transform the captured image into a virtual 3D model of your mouth, on which a crown will be drawn, perfectly adapted to your mouth. Then a computer will be connected to a robot that will cut a crown in pure ceramic, from a ceramic block. Finally, after these adjustments, the final crown will be cemented and the treatment carried out. This method allows the procedure to finish in just two hours, unlike the traditional process that would take several weeks.

Ceramic crowns are made of porcelain-based material. Its main advantage is the color, which resembles natural teeth and is highly resistant to wear. It is possible that the dentist may need to remove some of the tooth structure for the application of porcelain. Additional attention should be given to the choice of this material for patients who have a habit of grinding their teeth, due to the risk of porcelain fracture.
